***
What's your name?
My name is Ivan Muench, my dj name is Harry Callahan.
Where are you from?
I'm from Barcelona, Spain but i was born in London. English father, spanish mother.
What are you doing?
That's a question i always ask myself... no, seriously, i'm writting the answers to these questions.
Who influenced you musically?
My mum's record collection wich included records from The Beatles, Alan Parsons Project, and a Bruce Willis LP.
What was your first record?
"I Need You" by BVSMP 12". Don't judge me, it was the late 80's.
What are your favorite records at the moment?
My taste is wide and i enjoy listening to different styles of music, some of the tunes i'm enjoying currently are Charles Bradley's latest 45, Nick Waterhouse's Holly LP, Keith & Tex's Stop That Train LP and Folk music with a Funk/Soul influence, and of course, all the "Rocafort Records" releases.
What's your best digging story?
I don't go out much to dig for records, i like sitting comfortably at home sipping tea and having others do the digging for me. Lazy? maybe. But hey!
What's your favorite mix and why?
My mixes because they're probably the best in the world and they include the records i like. I'm a lazy bastard so i don't put out that many mixes. Also Miles' from Breakestra. He kills it everytime. Unfortunately he doesn't put many out because he's a perfectionist, i wish he wouldn't be because i really enjoy them! He's a very nice person too.
What's your favorite format? LP, 12", 7"?
7" definitely, it's the first thing i look for when i shop for records. 1 record, 2 songs, 50% of the record is always good, that rarely happens with an LP.
What are your 10 alltime favorites?
My taste changes with time, my top 10 now will be different to the one next year. These is my top 10 now...
- Bobby Wayne - You're Blowing My Mind (LA Val Records)
- Willis Wooten - Your Love Is Indescribably Delicious (Virtue)
- Les Ambassadeurs Du Motel De Bamako - Get Up James (Rocafort Records)
- Snoopy Dean - Your Love Move Me Baby (Blue Candle)
- The Willow Band - Willowman (Epic)
- Blew Smoke - Ain't Gonna Kill The Spirit (GRT)
- Casual T - Hands Off (Fifty Six)
- Arabi - Three Times (Sound Of New Orleans)
- Mighty Generation - Mg Beat (B-E-R)
- Flyte Tyme - It's The Things That You Do (Numero)
What's your most memorable dj gig?
Not one but the night we hosted at Clandestino in Barcelona with Dj Machito, it lasted for a year every saturday until the police came and shut it down. Pigs.
What's the best concert you ever went to?
Probably the Marlena Shaw show at the Apolo in Barcelona. I got to interview her and she's one of the most interesting persons i've ever met. Mulatu's concert with the Heliocentrics was quite important for me too. There's something about Ethiopian music that makes me very emotional, even if i don't understand a single word of what they're talking about.
Where & with who would your dream gig be?
With me, watching me on stage, but that's never gonna happen, it's phisically impossible.
If you mean a concert, it should be The Meters original line-up. Anywhere.
What's your favorite food & drink?
Food is an important part of my life, i enjoy cooking and eating and living in Spain makes thing easy for me because most of the pople are like me, so i can't choose one particular dish. Tea is my drink.
Any words of advice?
If there's one thing you can be sure of, it's that nothing is more powerful than a young boy's wish. Except an Apache helicopter. An Apache helicopter has machine guns AND missiles. It is an unbelievably impressive complement of weaponry, an absolute death machine.

What's your name?
My name is Philippe Rocafort.
Where are you from?
I'm from Lausanne, Switzerland. My father is spanish and my mother is half swiss, half austrian. Basically, I'm a bastard.
What are you doing?
That's what people tell me when i try to have a conversation with my imaginary friend.
Musically speaking, I'm running this label called "Rocafort Records" with my cousin Ivan Muench a/k/a Harry Callahan. I'm part of an association called "Les Enfants de Jean Brun" and i organize the "Holy Groove" Funk & Soul festival in Lausanne. Our second edition will take place from the 2nd to the 5th of october. Check it out on www.holygroove.ch
Who influenced you musically?
My older brother who listened to rap, blues and latin music. And then, my cousin Ivan. I remember the first time I went to his place in Barcelona. I spent the whole day playing the 45s and LPs I found in every place. Every single song had something I liked. I realized I had a real crush on Funk, Soul and the whole spectrum of black music.
What was your first record?
I think it was the "Dangerous" album by Michael Jackson.
What are your favorite records at the moment?
I should ask my neighbour...
That's always the last acquisitions. I'm really enjoying the new Souljazz Orchestra LP "Inner Fire". There's a few songs on the Lee Fields album "Emma Jean" specially this track called "Stone Angel". The first Colette Magny album from 1964. And our last 45 on Rocafort Records of the Rail Band and this beautiful song "Massaré Mousso" sung by Salif Keita and the saxophone of Tidiani Kone.
What's your best digging story?
I don't really dig because there's not a lot of "interesting" flea markets around here. But last year, I went to New Orleans with a friend who also collects records and we spent almost two days in the same shop (Jim Russell) while the shop owner was playing online video games and smoking cigarettes. She sometimes had to empty water buckets because it was raining and the roof had some holes, consequences of "Katrina". There was only one turntable and no headphones, so we took boxes and boxes of 45s, I was doing a first selection and my friend was putting it on the turntable and we only listened 3 to 5 seconds and knew if it was good or not. A lot of collectors had already been there but we found a few interesting 45s like Big Maybelle's That's a pretty good Love for 3 bucks. Stuart Baker from Soul Jazz Records told me he found a box full of 45's of Salt 's "Hung Up".
What's your favorite mix and why?
It's not a mix from a Dj but a mix by musicians. I'm talking about the Breakestra album "The live Mix Part 2". It had a huge impact on my musical evolution. I was listening to a lot of Hip-Hop music and this Breakestra Album was the perfect bridge from Hip-Hop to Funk and Soul music. On this album, they cover all classic hip-hop samples with the original tracks. If I had to choose one record, it would be this one.
What's your favorite format? LP, 12", 7"?
I like LPs when I have to organize or clean my apartment but 7" have something very special. As Jazzman Gerald told me once: "You can't go wrong with a 45, it only has two songs on it and one of them has been created to be a hit". Always trust Gerald!
What are your 10 alltime favorites?
- Marion Black - Who Knows (Capsoul)
- Lee Moses - Bad Girl (Musicor)
- Breakestra - Live Mix Part 2 (Stones Throw)
- Donny Hathaway - Live (ATCO)
- A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders (Jive)
- IAM - L'Ecole Du Micro d'Argent (Delabel)
- RJD2 - Deadringer (Definitive Jux)
- Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - What If We All Stop Paying Taxes/This Land Is Your Land (Daptone)
- Lucille Mathis - I'm Not Your Regular Woman (A-Bet)
- Lil Bob & The Lollipops - I Got Loaded/Nobody But You (La Louisianne)
What's your most memorable dj gig?
A gig at the Clandestino in Barcelona with Harry Callahan. A small place full of people who enjoyed the music we played.
There's another memorable night but not for the same reasons. I was part of a crew of 7 Funk Djs called "Les Tontons Funkeurs" . Each Dj was playing 5 records in a row before the next one and this went all night long. After waiting for his turn, one of us (not me) had to pee but wanted so badly to play his records that he took the decision to pee on himself while playing his records. That's how big the love for music can be!
What's the best concert you ever went to?
I'm not a big Jazz head but i saw José James a couple of times and he's absolutely great!
Where & with who would your dream gig be?
If I could DJ from my home (on my couch, taking a nap) for people in another place, that would be my dream gig.
What's your favorite food & drink?
I basically like everything that's edible except paper sleeves...mmmh although I'm not sure they're edible.
Any words of advice?
If you're really tired, take a nap and then, go to bed.

what's your name & where are you from?
my name is that fucking sara and i'm from all over the place.
what are you doing?
mostly stuff that i like or stuff that i have to do.
who influenced you musically?
the library in the town where i grew up - i could sit there for hours listening to records while reading books. thats how i got introduced to the drums, the bass, the keys and THE FLUTE! and im really thankful for that, without that library i would have been a total different person (and prolly a more social kid).
what was your first record?
it was an 7" - the rock steady crew "(hey you) the rock steady crew"
& what was the last record you bought?
Dena "Flash" which i bought at her release party in berlin last week.
what are your favorite records at the moment?
farhot "kabul fire vol 1" is an album that i'm listening a lot to at the moment. But besides that im listening to tons of instrumentals - im searching for beats / producer inspiration at the moment. Also listening to a lot of the new shit just to see what's going on and find some of the instrumentals pretty interesting .
what's your best digging story?
There's a lot! But some of my favourites are definitely from buenos aires. In one record store i ended up dancing with the owner who was around 80 years old to some candombe record that he recommended me (and it worked, i ended up buying all of them). In another store they didnt had a turntable 'cus they had sold the last one but no problem - they just asked a random guy in the street if we could borrow one, so i could listen to the records before buying and he just went home and got his record player!
what's your favorite mix and why?
for ice cream it's chocolate and raspberry, its looks beautiful and it taste delicious!

besides
that - coffee and cigarettes it's just the perfect relationship, jeans
and sneakers - it looks great and it's comfortable, redwine and almost
anything - basically because heavy dry redwine rocks.
what's your favorite format? lp, 12", 7"?
7", they are cute (and not heavy).
what are your 10 alltime favorites?
nelson mandela
ffc turbine potsdam
may ayim
vinyl
food (yes, that includes steak)
champagne
sneakers
books (especially autobiographies)
heavy redwine
diego maradona

what's your most memorable dj gig?
uhm,
besides the one where they had removed the cables from the turntables
cus they were in the way for the cd-players??? or the one where there
was only one turntable and they looked at me like i was an idiot because
i needed two (and a mixer).
theres
is a lot to chose from but maybe the one where a girl jump up on the dj
desk and danced like a maniac and bumped her face into a lamp and broke
her nose, but continued dancing until the end of my gig with blood all
over. and discovered that she was in pain AFTER the music stopped. That
showed me how powerful music is (maybe some kinda drugs too).
what's the best concert you ever went to?
jay-z in madison square garden - NOTHING beats that. NOTHING!
where & with who would your dream gig be?
as a tour dj it would definitely be with jay-z and it could be anywhere.
but
basically i really love djing with people that i like (who has nice
records and respect for the culture) and that can also be anywhere. but i
love doing festivals, you reach so many people and nobody in the
audience cares about how their look or how they dance.
what's your favorite food & drink?
steak and champagne and heavy dry redwine. water is pretty nice too and all kind of potato stuff and pasta.
any last words?
this is my chance to come up with something really deep and clever that could be re-posted on facebook i guess.
dang, i just blew it.

SOULSTEW: MISS B, HERR SIGRIST & HERR WEMPE
Samstag, 15. Februar 2014, 23h
What's your name?
Bea Venturini - a/k/a 'MISS B', a name given to me by a club promoter in Italy back in the day.
Where are from?
I'm a Londoner by way of Milano.
What are you doing?
Dancing around my handbag to great tunes.
Who influenced you musically?
Hearing Motown, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway and a lot of great soul/jazz DJs on the radio as a kid whilst growing up in London.
What was your first record?
Billy Stewart - Summertime
What are your favorite records at the moment?
I'm rather seduced by the soulful upbeat sounds of Pharrell at the moment. I've just bought Sweet Vibrations by Benny Latimore and am loving all of it.
What's your best digging story?
Charity shops in London in the early 90s.
What's your favorite mix and why?
My fave mix is a selection of cover versions of FEVER that I did with DJ Salmon.
What's your favorite format? LP, 12", 7"?
Love them all, but for depth of sound you can't beat a 7".
What are your 10 alltime favorites?
1. Tony Clarke - Landslide
2. Etta James - I prefer you
3. Marva Whitney - Fly me to the moon
4. Johnny Taylor - What about my love?
5. Lou Rawls - Natural man
6. Dee Edwards - Why can't there be love?
7. Ryo Kawasaki - Trinkets and things
8. Donny Hathaway and June Conquest - I thank you
9. Derobert and the Half Truths - Joy
10. JR Bailey - After hours
not to mention Jackie Wilson, Bobby Womack, Aretha ...
What's your most memorable dj gig?
Friday nights at the Blue Note in London circa 1994
What's the best concert you ever went to?
The Neville Brothers in New Orleans.
Where & with who would your dream gig be?
Up in soul heaven with Donny Hathaway.
What's your favorite food & drink?
A nice cup of tea and a large portion of Tiramisù.
What's your favorite color?
Black and white polka dots.

Wo du kommst her?
Was machst du?
Verschiedene Künstler in verschiedenen Epochen ... Afrika Bambaataa, Rick Rubin, Diamond D, Lord Finesse, Large Professor und am Ende irgendwie doch immer James Brown und Stevie Wonder.
Was war deine erste Platte?
Chris Read “The Magic is gone“ 7“
Welche sind deine aktuellen Lieblingsplatten?
Marterias “Zum Glück in die Zukunft 2“, Temple of Speed “10 Tracks Vol. 5“, Meyhem Lauren “Raw Cashmere“, Action Bronson x Party Supplies “Blue Chips 2“, Diamond D & The Psychotic Neurotics “Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop“, Adrian Younge and the Delfonics “Adrian Younge presents The Delfonics“, Booker T Jones “Road to Memphis“, Ghostface Killah & Adrian Younge “Twelve Reasons To Die“, Stevie Wonder “Innervisions“, Tommy Vercetti & Dezmond Dez “Glanton Gang“, Jaylib “Champion Sound“, J Dilla “The Shining“, Run The Jewels “Run The Jewels“, Shuggie Otis “Freedom Flight“ und im täglichen Wechsel viele viele mehr...
Was ist deine beste "Dig" Geschichte?
Ich: Mein Freund, wieso hast Du Ike Turners “A Black Man's Soul“ zwei Mal?
• Phill Most Chill aka The Soulman “Neva Stop Diggin“, ebenfalls auf Kassette. Der DJ, Produzent, Plattendealer, Plattensammler und Rapper aus Philly vereint all seine Fähigkeiten und unglaubliche Breaks auf einem einzigen Tape.
Was ist dein Lieblingsformat? LP, 12 ", 10", 7"?
• Stevie Wonder “Innvervisions“
• Diamond D & The Psychotic Neurotics “Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop“
• Nas “Illmatic“
• Lord Finesse & DJ Mike Smooth “The Funky Technician“
• Ultramagnetic MCs “Critical Beatdown“
• A Tribe Called Quest “Midnight Marauders“
• J Dilla “The Shining“
• Shuggie Otis “Freedom Flight“
• Marvin Gaye “What’s going on“
• Jay-Z “The Black Album“
Was war dein bestes DJ Erlebnis?
Ilarius, Pesa, Soulsonic, Reezm, Spinna, Soulman, Phill Most Chill, Cucumber Slice, Mr Supreme, Forrest GetEm Gump, Large Professor, Diamond D, Cut Chemist, Rich Medina, Ngoc Lan, Scope, Defcon, Marc Hype, Falk Schacht, Biz Markie, Natasha Diggs, Operator Emz, TufKut, Rob Life, Pete Rock, The 45 King, Peter Wermelinger, Q-Tip, Fat Daddy, Goo, Brown Sugar, Zuki, Sassy J, Pinto Galli, Katmando, That Fucking Sara, Back Q, Rick. Man darf ja träumen.
Was ist dein Lieblingsessen & Getränk?
